I was originally setting out to do a degree in Fine Art Painting or Sculpture when someone made the comment that it might be wise to learn another craft whilst still operating within the art world. It might be something to fall back on they hinted (at this time the idea of successfully running a company as an artist might have looked like too big a leap). I had seen glass making by this point and found the whole process intriguing. On my Foundation course they simply didn't have the facilities to teach this and so it was a complete gamble but I applied to do a degree in Glass with Sculpture at the University of Wolverhampton. I graduated in 1997 and took another big step by setting up my own company designing and creating my own pieces and I have never looked back. As a result I feel that I have never had a real job as such, being fortunate enough to do what I love best, playing with this amazing material. Over the years my portfolio has expanded and the work now requires a high degree of skill.

My inspiration comes from many different sources, the last to give an example was from a book called "The sea Lady" by HG Wells. It told the story of how a mermaid lured a gentleman away from his life on land. I wanted to create a body of work showing the precious, legendary nature of the creature with an almost sinister element. This developed in to what is now known as the Mermaid range.

I am currently working using patterns from the Art Deco period, a style which I love My goal to produce a series of one-offs. As yet I don't know how they will turn out. It will again involve processes that I haven't used yet with new effects, but for me this experimental journey of discovery is the exciting part!
